Agnes Torres Sulca

An advocate for the Mexican lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) community, Agnes Torres Sulca, was found murdered in Atlixco, Puebla this March 10, 2012.

She was an academic, a psychologist, an educator,a  model, and an activist for human rights of all women in general and of all sexual diversity. We are also shocked, saddened, angered, and saddened by the crime and  we feel powerless once again because a valuable person has succumbed to the most brutal form of gender-based violence.

She was one of the most prominent advocates for Queer people in Mexico, and Mexican authorities

Hollaback! RVA is deeply concerned about the street harassment the LGBTQ community faces. During this time of year we would like to shed light on harassment that the transgender community faces. The month of November is a special month to remember the lives we have lost due to this gender based violence/trans* hate.  It is unfortunate that these individuals have lost their life because of their gender identity.

Hollaback! RVA is involved with Richmond’s efforts, Transgender Day of Remembrance, to remember these lives and also would like to take the time to honour these lives via this site and other social media sites. Each Day in November we will be sharing with you a name, a story, and a picture ( if we can find one) of the many lives lost.

We must continue to fight harassment in our cities and work to make the cities we live in safer for members of the LGBTQ community.
